Peyton Manning Makes Surprising Admission About His Nephew Arch

Texas quarterback Arch Manning is moving into the starting quarterback role for the Longhorns in 2025 after patiently waiting behind Quinn Ewers for a couple of years. Arch’s uncle -- Peyton Manning -- believes Arch has all of the tools necessary to be a star this season.

Peyton appeared on The Pat McAfee Show earlier this week and shared that Arch is capable of making throws Peyton couldn’t make, even when he was at the top of his game in the NFL.

Peyton Manning spent time with Arch Manning and several of the top quarterbacks in college football at the Manning Passing Academy last week.

"I’m excited to watch Arch play. He’s been very patient,“ Peyton Manning said. ”I thought he threw the ball really well at the camp. He and Garrett Nussmeier... Really threw the ball well. All the quarterbacks threw it well. It’s impressive.

“I mean, they make throws that I wouldn’t even think about making. I mean, Arch made a throw the other day that I’d have to hit the cutoff man in order to get the ball to the actual receiver. And Nussmeier, I mean LaNorris [Sellers] from South Carolina, it’s impressive all the way around.”

Arch threw for 939 yards, with nine touchdowns and two interceptions in 2024 while receiving limited playing time.

Now, he is set to be the leader of the Texas team this fall. It’s a role Peyton believes his nephew is ready for after working hard for the past two years.

"He’s been patient,“ Peyton said. ”It’s been well-documented the fact that he’s been there two years.

“The fact that [Steve] Sarkisian calls the plays and Arch has been there two years already, he’s going to know the system, that’s a huge advantage for him, and I’m looking forward to seeing him get out there on the field. He’s worked real hard. … And I’m excited to get down there and watch a few games this year in Austin."

In addition to having a strong arm, Arch Manning is also an excellent runner. He rushed for 108 yards and four touchdowns in 2024, showing off impressive athleticism that Peyton admits he never possessed.

“I think that little swagger comes from his dad. That’s good to see. Look, Arch has got to be his own person, and he can move,” Peyton said. “My dad’s sort of speed skipped a generation – skipped me and Eli – and I think Arch has that, which helps him.

“But I still think with all quarterbacks, I mean we’ve gotta be able to throw from the pocket first and throw it on time and not take a lot of hits. That’s what we talked about to all of them, ‘Hey, know your system, know your answers, but then when it’s time to play go out there and make a play with your legs.’ So I think he understands that.”

While Peyton Manning was incredibly complimentary of Arch, there’s no doubt that his nephew has a ton of work to do to be anywhere near the quarterback that Peyton was.

After all, Peyton is widely considered to be one of the best quarterbacks of all time.

With that said, there’s also no doubt that Arch is extremely talented and appears well on his way to being a successful NFL quarterback. The story Peyton shared about Arch’s arm strength should have Texas fans and NFL teams excited about the possibilities for the 2025 season and beyond.
